What woulh make this man change from fire to ice overnight?

I am 51 years old and going through divorce and met a 49 year old widower.I have known him for 19 years because I was a friend of his wife, His wife died in May of 09 and he started pursuing me relentlessy in June of the same year. I told him he needed to grieve for at least a year but he refused e is a great ,He supported me and was wonderful in every way. In Nov 09 I saw changes ,He disappeared for all the major holidays and could not be contacted at home or by phone although we live in the same town, 2 days or so after the holidays he would make contact, I have explained my frustrations but he says everything is OK, He no longer calls often and I appear to be the one reaching out to him all the time, I called and told him it is over 3 days ago, ahe has not responded I know i made the right decision, curiousity is killing me however, What do you think?
