Is it proper for a vet to perform surgery this late?

If I were you I would go back to the vets office and see what is going on and tell them you are not leaving without your dog if no one is going to be there after hours.I took my a gal home right after she woke up from spay and could stand.Just be sure there is an emergency vet number for you to call if needed.
