In our modern age, who of the seas carries the Trident and its symbolic power?
I stumbled upon this while looking for a better answer to your other question. Britannia was a name given to Britain by the Romans and was later personified when a female goddess figure was minted onto coins. The Victorians glorified the image, often showing Britannia as dominating the seas with trident in hand. She symbolically represented the power of England's Royal Navy. Now the trident is linked with the Trident Missile Program which is a powerful nuclear deterrent and a continuing symbol of British might, as it is capable of hitting any target on the planet with devastating results.
